CIS Design Co. is a Navajo owned, Flagstaff, AZ based small business that started as a "New Beginning" for a Newly Engaged and now a Husband & Wife Team. We (Cindy & Irvin) Married our Design Strengths Together with my (Irvin) strong CAD design background and My Beautiful Wife's (Cindy) Astounding Talent in Interior Design. Our story begins with an interior décor problem my fiancée had in her house. She had this uniquely large entertainment center that could not fit properly in height on an interior diving wall, that separated the living room and kitchen/dining room due to a decorative ledge in the middle of the house. My fiancée learned of my light construction background (knowingly knew of my design career) asked if the ledge of the diving wall could be removed, so that the entertainment center could be positioned on this dividing wall. The ledge and the height of the entertainment center would collide unaesthetically, preventing Cindy from properly placing it, to rearrange/decorate the living room. While removing the ledge, the mid-morning sun brightened the living room just a moderately more natural light peering over the dividing wall, that sparked the idea of my fiancée’s imagination. She asked me, “What IF we removed this Wall?” I connected her lightbulb…and replied, “let me check to see if this wall is Load Bearing?” I went up into the attic to look for a structural beam, there was none. I told her, “We can definitely remove this wall, it’s not a load bearing wall”. Cindy and I developed a plan to remove the diving wall (on one side the living room, the adjacent wall had kitchen cabinets, refrigerator, and oven) to relocate the entire kitchen wall to another perpendicular wall. I measured and rendered a couple kitchen concepts of what my fiancée’s dream kitchen would inspire to be, we collaborated and finalized a kitchen design (during our wedding planning stages, I may add) We planned to reuse and repurpose the kitchen cabinets, to save costs on purchasing new cabinets, removing pink tile in the kitchen, dining room, hardwood flooring in the living room, entry, hallway, installing new pet friendly luxury laminate flooring throughout the house, and repainting the entire interior. After our home renovation and wedding, which we built and decorated 80% of our wedding event. We started our small business CIS Design Co.
